International recruiting has the direct positive effect of bringing new cultural backgrounds into your organisation and thus increasing diversity. Creating additional benefits and unlocking the full potential of diversity is a challenge for companies, but there are many ways to make the most out of it.

Rethink your target group


You might have a specific target group of people you hire based on your existing employees. When you start going international, this is the chance to rethink your hiring scope. One example is gender. If you have a tech company, your current share of female employees might be low. But on the global scale, there is a higher share of women in IT, engineering, etc, so think about targeting other diversity dimensions within your international recruiting.


Also, don’t limit yourself to a certain geographic region from the beginning. You might have heard about people coming from different regions for certain kinds of jobs, but there are many countries catching up quickly. Savvy recruiters will stay on top of the economic developments and seek qualified candidates from other growing areas. For instance, the “next eleven”, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Turkey, South Korea and Vietnam.
